A group tour that gives you a taste of the real Portugal, you’d be forgiven if at the first mention of Portugal, souvenir shops , bar lined promenades and idyllic beaches in the Algarve spring to mind, and rightly so, as the Algarve region offers some of the best beaches in Europe.

That said, haven’t you ever wondered what life is like when you take a step back from the coast and take in the authentic Portuguese way of life?, What do they eat? how is the architecture? Portuguese culture, and so on,

This tour will give you a real taste of traditional Portugal as you travel in a group of no more than 12 people from Lisbon taking in an authentic journey through central Portugal.

ITINERARY.

Day 1.

Arrive into Lisbon where your English speaking driver will greet and take you the short journey to your first hotel Fenix Lisboa, this will be your home for the next 3 nights giving you plenty of time to explore this historic City.

Day 2.

After settling into Lisbon life today sees our group visit the infamous “Fado in Chiado”, Touch the soul of Lisbon, hear and feel the sound of the soul of people through live singing and guitar music, while you contemplate images of the past of this fascinating city. The sober staging and eager voices of young Fado singers and performers of the Portuguese guitar make this an ideal venue to enjoy this soulful music. It is said that the Fado is the place where the Portuguese national traits of saudade (longing), pride, hope and resignation come together in a musical style of which Amália Rodrigues was perhaps the most important figure.

Day 3.

Today you will be able to explore Lisbon at your leisure, a hop on hop off tour bus ticket will be provided for you to explore the sites of which there are many, your guide will be on hand to offer any advice.

In the evening our group will get together for a meal at a traditional local restaurant, serving up flavours from both the land and sea

Day 4.

It’s now time to make your way into the heart of Portugal, your driver will collect you from your hotel after breakfast and take the 3 hour drive to the Mourasuites hotel in Evora, the Alentejo region of Portugal. An afternoon arrival leaves plenty of time for your first attraction, the chapel of bones o r Capella dos ossos as it’s known locally.

This small chapel’s walls are lined with skulls and bones arranged in a variety of patterns.

In the evening a meal will be prepared specially for our group by a local chef in the hotel restaurant consisting of one of the regions favourite dishes.

Day 5.

Comfy shoes are the order of the day as after breakfast your guide will collect you and take you on a walking tour of Evora, the city really is beautiful and once you enter inside the walled section of the city prepare for breathtaking sites and truly traditional craft stalls, coffee shops and pastry shops.

Day 6.

Today left as a free day for you to enjoy this enchanting city at your own pace.

Day 7.

Time to say goodbye to Evora after breakfast, today our group will make the journey to the coastal fishing town of Setubal,an area of Portugal famous for amazing fish dishes including the regions favourite dish, choco frito.

The rest of the day is at leisure by relaxing at one of the “untouched by tourists” beaches.

Day 8.

Spend your last full day in Portugal visiting monastery of Jesus and the convento da Arrabida, set in the hills of the mountains this 16th century building contains buildings, shrines and woodland.

Day 9.

After exploring “off the beaten track” Portugal it’s now time to head home, after breakfast we make our way to Lisbon airport by a scenic train ride from Setubal passing through towns and traditional Portuguese villages.
